The 2015 Ora King awards are less than a week away. Menus are finalised, guest list confirmed and flights are booked, safe to say there is certainly no turning back.
This year marks the third annual award celebration and in true Ora King style we have a very special day planned for our guests. We will host over 65 chefs, media, Ora King partners and friends from within New Zealand and around the world at Raetihi Lodge in the Marlborough Sounds, also home to our Ora king salmon.
With such a pristine setting and the recent environmental accreditation for our company we thought it fitting to have the days theme based on sustainability. To do so, we must work with the people and environment in the place we call home; respecting our origins, whilst creating our future.
It is appropriate that in the year we return to the Sounds for this event, we have had some significant milestones in our journey striving for best practice in sustainability. From the landmark moment in March – when the NZ King salmon industry was awarded the only “Best Choice” recommendation for farmed salmon in the world by the esteemed US-based Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch – to the recent launch of Aquaculture NZ’s A+ sustainability framework for industry, we’ve seen our business change more rapidly than ever.
Keeping within the theme of sustainability, we have asked our three guest chefs, Ben Batterbury, Glen Taylor and Carla Jones, to keep their ingredient list compact, using as much produce from the Marlborough region as possible, and the whole salmon in innovative ways.
